About VMS

Verna Montessori School arial main entrance.

Verna Montessori School is an affordable, private, non-profit, religious Montessori school for children ages 3-14, and the only Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognized school in Western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1969 and administered by the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, Verna Montessori School (VMS) differs in every aspect from the usual school. Everything, from the colors of the learning materials to the tone of the teacher’s voice is planned to stimulate your child to learn. Learning is independent, and children work in their own way with materials they choose according to their own abilities and interests. In this way, your children are supported in learning how to learn, a key principle of a Montessori education. VMS seeks to build within your child the foundation for a lifetime of creative and joyful learning, providing a framework in which intellectual and social growth go hand in hand, supporting each individual’s unique development.

Located in Bullskin Township in the Laurel Highlands, VMS is conveniently located close to Mount Pleasant, Connellsville, Hempfield, Scottdale, Latrobe and surrounding areas.
