I. Meeting Called to Order - 7:00 pm

II. Sim City

  • This year’s Sim City Project placed second in the regional competition.
  • The children did very well.  They kept their composure in front of a large audience.
  • An article on the student’s achievements appeared in the Sunday Tribune-Review.
  • More information regarding the Sim City project is posted on the website.  www.vernamontessorischool.org/

III. Fundraisers

  • The 2011 Christmas Colebrook Candy Sale was the best to date.  It was decided to keep Colebrook on as the Candy Fundraiser.  They are a local company with ties to the school.
  • We would like to keep the Annual Book Fair.  However, a chair for this committee is needed.  Mrs. Witt has said in the past that she would help the new chair get started on this project.
  • The 7th Annual Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course.  This facility offers two golf courses, fine dining, and a spa.  The new Course was decided on for several reasons: 1.) Donegal Highlands has had a management change and we were not able to secure the same rates as in the past years, 2.) last year we sold 35 “dinner only” tickets to family and friends of the school, we are expecting this number to grow and Chestnut Ridge can accommodate up to 400 people, 3.) In the future, as the outing grows, we could incorporate spa packages into the outing.  Packages for golfing the next day may be made available.  Chestnut Ridge is approximately a 40 minute drive from the school.  It was suggested that maybe the 8th grade students could help in some aspect of the day.  More information will be coming home via the children and emails.
  • Scrip orders are down this year.  More information and order forms are available on the website.  Please contact Valerie Sandzimier for more information or questions on how to get started.
  • The Market American account has been set up.  More information will be coming home.
  • Several designs for Spirit Wear were available to view at the meeting.  More information regarding ordering will be sent home.

IV. School Sports

  • The school has an opportunity to participate in a Soccer League.  This would take place outdoors in the spring and be open to 3rd – 8th graders.  The school would need someone to manage and coach the team.  If interested please contact Valerie Farino for more information.
  • The basketball season is going well.

V. Open House

  • This year’s Open House will be held on Monday, March 5th with a snow date of March 12th.
  • Also, the week of March 5th, we will have a Montessori Consultant visiting the school.  The school will host an evening conference with the consultant as the speaker.  More information on the date, time and topic will be sent home in the next couple weeks.  Because this only happens once every couple years, please make every effort to attend the conference.

VI. Adjournment

  • The meeting adjourned at 8:30pm
