VMS PANTHERS BASKETBALL TEAM
Hooray! We hope that we will have a sufficient number of students interested in playing this year. It would be great to have both an elementary and a junior high team!
The Christian School League has been so kind to welcome us into their program. Below you will find answers to some basic questions about how the league operates. There may be a few questions that we have not considered. If we missed something give Jim Michael a call at

When does the season begin?
The season begins on December 17, 2011 with a round robin tournament. The point here is to give the teams an opportunity to meet, compete, and assess what skills the players need to practice before the regular season play begins. The regular season games typically begin in January, although sometimes a few games are played in December. The season concludes in late March with a playoff tournament.
Where will we practice?
Mt. Pleasant School District is kind enough to provide us with court time. We will practice Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Rumbaugh Elementary School gymnasium on School St. in Mt. Pleasant. The first practice is scheduled for Wednesday November 9th. There is no charge for the use of the facility.
Who will coach our teams?
In the past Mr. Jim Michael and Mrs. Valerie Farino have volunteered to coach our teams. As always we encourage any parents to step forward to help coach our Panthers.
Who is eligible to play?
The program is co-ed. Boys and girls are encouraged to play! The Junior High team includes 7th and 8th grade (players must not be older than 15 years of age when the season begins) with 6th grade eligible to fill the roster. The Elementary team is 4th through 6th grade with 3rd grade available to fill the roster.
What will this cost?
The cost is $70.00 per basketball player. This includes the cost of their uniform, and a pro rata share of referee fees, and court rental fees for games. If a player will be using their uniform from last year then their cost will be $45.00.
Once we have determined how many players we have, then we will be able to make a determination as to everyone’s pro rata share.
If parents want to conduct a fundraiser that is fine, but someone would need to step forward and coordinate the effort!
School Spirit
Our primary purpose for participating in the league is to provide our students with an opportunity to participate in a team sport and represent our school. This is one available avenue to get our children together for fun, exercise and school spirit! In the past years, the basketball program included cheerleaders and a pep rally.
